100$ Android Phones

Broadcom has introduced a new chipset, BCM2157. This chipset provides the major guts required to build an Android-based 3G phone: a dual core ARM processor, GPS and Bluetooth, plus support for Wifi hot spots, Android 2.2 and up, a 5 MP camera and both HVGA and WQVGA screens.

And the real part is according to Jim Tran from Broadcom, the price will reduce to about 100$, that too without a contract. That is seriously something to look out for. And they have said that the chipset will be out by first quarter of 2011. And also during next year they will develop a chipset that will reduce deliver todays high end smartphone features at about 75$-100$.

We cannot expect this much price drops but there will be some serious drops by next year on both manufacturers and service providers. This will drive the android smartphone market even further.

And also it will put on some serious pressure on the Iphone market. One thing is certain, if this happens the Iphone should learn to reduce it's price to stay aright in the current android uprising.
